Bush Telegraph: The Thrill of Walking SafarisLewis Mangaba is the head guide at Oliver’s Camp in Tarangire National Park in Tanzania. As well as being a guide trainer, he is also a tribal chief and has an unrivalled knowledge of bushcraft and bush medicine.
Oliver’s Camp is located in one of the most remote and beautiful areas of the park and is renowned for its bush walks and overnight fly camping. In this podcast Lewis explains what makes walking through the bush on foot such a unique experience and the qualities that make a good walking guide.

Lewis is currently in a shortlist of eight out of 2,200 nominations for the 2014 Wanderlust World Guide Awards. Oliver’s Camp is run by Asilia Africa who have just been awarded the 2014 Tourism for Tomorrow Business Award.

The Ultimate Travel Company can arrange a one week safari combining Tarangire National Park and the northern Serengeti, from £4,784 per person. Three nights at Oliver’s, home to award-winning guide, Lewis Mangaba, is followed by four nights at Ubuntu Camp. A traditional tented camp, Ubuntu moves with the seasons, making the most of the year round migration.

All meals, local drinks, laundry and activities are included and the price also includes Kenya Airways flights from Heathrow, travel between camps by light aircraft and private transfers throughout.
