Guides: meet Lewis MangabaMeet Oliver's Camp's Head Guide and Walking Guide; Lewis Mangaba! Over the coming time you will see regular updates coming from Lewis about Tarangire, local wildlife and the camp. He will blog about anything he experiences. Enjoy!

Lewis is a highly respected walking guide with unwavering passion and genuine enthusiasm for African people, wildlife and conservation. When you meet him it is easy to see why. An outstanding example of the great generation of safari guides that emerged from Zimbabwe in the ‘80s and ‘90s now working throughout East and Southern Africa. His many years of experience in the guiding industry led him to be nominated for the ‘Zimbabwe Best Safari Guide 2011’.

His first phase in his guiding career sixteen years ago took him down the Zambezi below Lake Kariba as a Canoe Guide. A river famous for crocodiles, Hippos and swimming elephants. In 1997 he joined Wilderness Safaris group in Hwange National Park. While in Hwange he cultivated his love for walking and tracking big game. He loves to teach and interpret tracks and signs left by animals to guests until finally they sit a few metres away from the animal humbly and quite. As his reputation grew he moved to Namibia as a Head Guide and Guide Trainer.

In 2011 he started a  private guiding career which has taken him to diverse  places in Africa. Lewis would have relaxed into a lifestyle of freelance guiding, but it was a brave decision to take up a position with Asilia Camps and Lodges as Head Guide for Oliver’s Camp in Tarangire, Tanzania. He is also involved in guide training within the company.

He shares the privilege of being the first guides to be assessed for Level 11 walking Certificate in Tanzania by the Interpretive Guides Society and he also sits on the Steering committee of the Society.
