ALTHOUGH ASILIA ONLY launched in 2004, many individuals that started the group pioneered tourism to East Africa decades ago. These people were individuals from very different backgrounds; however they all shared a passion for the real and remote East Africa, and for the people that inhabited this country. When Asilia started, the idea was to bring together the best owner-run properties and to develop new properties in the most pristine wilderness areas in East Africa. This idea has become a reality, and it has resulted in the steady growth of Asilia’s portfolio to its current group of small properties.
In 2007, Asilia established the now independent Honeyguide Foundation (www.honeyguide.org), specifically dedicated to achieving these goals. Asilia continues to look for new destinations in pristine wildlife and unique marine areas.
