Camp Experience

Nomadic Camp is an exclusive private mobile camp that travels to some of the most spectacular locations the Mara ecosystem has to offer. With a team that has managed safaris in the Maasai Mara for over 30 years and an elite group of top guides all born and bred in the area, a safari with Nomadic is intimate, enriching and extraordinary.

Sleeping a maximum of 16 guests and a minimum of four, safaris are designed around each private group and focus specifically on their areas of interest. But be assured, wherever the location the scenery will be breathtaking and the wildlife experience iconic.

A comfortable lounge tent provides the perfect place to relax with a cool drink at the end of a day of adventure. When the sky darkens, let the private chef conjure up a delicious meal to enjoy under a canopy of African stars with the campfire roaring nearby.

Delicious home-cooked meals taste even better in the bush. After an early start for morning game drives, breakfast back in camp is a tempting spread that includes a full English breakfast as well as pancakes, fruit, cereals and yoghurt. Light, buffet-style lunches include plenty of salads with your main course. Dinner is a three-course silver service affair. Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements – our camp chefs will be happy to cater for your needs.

Picnic breakfasts are a wonderful way to maximise your game-viewing time. We usually pack a range of fresh sweet and savoury pastries, muffins, Scotch eggs, sausages, fruit, cereals, tea, coffee and fruit juices. If you’d like a bush lunch we can send a vehicle out to meet you with a meal you can enjoy right in the wilderness.

Featured Wildlife

Nomadic Camp specialises in bespoke safaris designed around finding the species you most want to see. The variety of game you will see changes from one exceptional location to the next. The one thing that doesn’t change, though, is the fact that your viewing will be thrilling and rewarding.

Countless exceptional sightings include:
• Elephant
• Cheetah
• Black Rhino
• Buffalo
• Serval
• Caracal
• Hippo
• Lion
• Gazelle
• Topi
• Warthog
• Giraffe

A Typical Day on Safari

The very best time for rewarding game viewing is in the cooler early mornings and late afternoons, when the animals are at their most active. Depending on the season, your day may start slightly earlier or later, but the general pace of life in camp is focused on giving you the very best possible game-viewing experience. If you have booked a private game-viewing vehicle do discuss personal schedule preferences with your guide.

05:30–06:00 Wake-up call with hot tea and coffee
06:30–07:00 Following breakfast, depart for a morning game drive or walk, or leave slightly earlier, taking a packed breakfast with you.

13:00 Lunch
13:30–16:00 Siesta time: read a book or just relax
16:00 Afternoon tea
16:30 Depart for afternoon/evening activity with sundowner cocktails
18:30 Arrive back in camp
19:30 Drinks at the bar, followed by dinner under the stars

Family Safaris

Families with children aged five and older are warmly welcomed in Nomadic Camp, however we do not offer special family tents, activities for children or personal guides. Children are accommodated in a separate tent or by adding a third bed to a tent; we strongly recommend that children below 12 always share a room/tent with an adult.

An adventure from Nomadic Camp comes complete with all creature comforts.  The camp accommodates up to eight spacious Meru-style tents with double or twin beds.  Each tent has en-suite bathrooms with hot-water, bucket showers and flushing toilets.

Nomadic camp location
Nomadic Camp, exclusively set up in the Mara according to guest preferences.

Unlike other camps, Nomadic Camp has the freedom to position itself in exactly the right place at the right time and in areas that others simply cannot reach in the hidden corners of the Mara ecosystem. Depending on the time of year, our expert guides will ensure you are at the heart of the action.

This might be the Mara North Conservancy, an area famous for leopard sightings at Leopard Gorge and the Loita Migration calving in March, or perhaps in the Maasai Mara Reserve itself, close to the Mara River, where vast herds of wildebeest plunge across the water during the annual Great Migration. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy might be the location of choice if you are wanting to immerse yourself in the magic of discovering the bush on foot.

Nomadic Camp is a safari like no other: the days and activities are planned around your tastes and interests. Enjoy a wide range of bush activities and discover the wilderness on your own terms.

Game drives
Morning, afternoon or full-day game drives are available from the Nomadic Camp sites to give you superb opportunities for wildlife viewing and bird watching. Because our camp is exclusive, you will not share your game-viewing vehicle with other groups. We offer open vehicles (with canvas roof) or closed vehicles (with closed sides but windows and roof hatches that allow you to stand). All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty.

East Africa’s birdlife is rich and diverse – there are over 1 000 species in Kenya and Tanzania. Let our expert Nomadic guides from Nomadic breed a curiosity in these feathered creatures and spend a morning with a pair of binoculars and a bird book.

Walking safaris
Whether you get up close and personal to the giraffe nibbling nonchalantly on the tops of the acacias or track lion on foot, a walking safari is an exhilarating and exciting experience that, depending on location, can be experienced from Nomadic Camp.

Cultural & community visits
The team at Nomadic Camp has been born and brought up in the local communities. They delight in arranging a visit to one of their homesteads to give you a unique and informative insight into the traditions of the Maasai culture.

Camp Story

Nomadic Camp’s story begins 30 years ago, when the Beaton and Looseyia families, two legendary Mara clans, explored the Maasai Mara together on foot. Sleeping under the stars, with a team of donkeys carrying their bedrolls and supplies, they discovered places where large numbers of antelope, big game and predators come together. The stories of their journeys spread. When Disney Nature’s ‘African Cats’ film-production crew travelled with them in 2009, they suggested that more people be given the opportunity to join them on their unique journeys. More recently, Nomadic Camp was home to the BBC’s ‘The Hunt’, David Attenborough’s final documentary series before he retired.  Today, Nomadic Camp is available to anyone who yearns for adventure and the most compelling safari experience imaginable.
