Eco-warrior awards for Asilia Africa Conservancies

By Wandering Maasai | 10 November 2015

Ecotourism Kenya recognizes the best innovations in sustainable tourism each year through its Ecowarrior Awards. We’re proud to announce that this year Asilia is associated with two of the awards.

The Eco-warrior Award for 2015 was awarded to the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, wherewe work together with our partners to protect this critical wildlife habitat.Mara Naboisho Conservancy is a partnership between more than five hundred Maasai households and five ecotourism operators. Together the partners formed a community wildlife conservancy in 2010 which protects over 20,000 hectares of critical wildlife habitat.

In addition, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy won the Best Private Conservancy award. This is great news as we have recently partnered with Ol Pejeta Bush Camp and introduced ourselves to this remarkable wildlife and conservation area.

“Mara Naboisho Conservancy’s unique model of partnership and joint decision making is innovative and effective. This recognition by Ecotourism Kenya comes as we complete our first five-year development phase and all partners involved should be applauded! A lot has been achieved: over 300 new jobs, incomes to over 500 Maasai families and further indirect benefits to approximately 10,000 people,” said Gerard Beaton, Asilia Country Manager for Kenya, and an integral part of the creation of the conservancy.

Ecotourism Kenya acknowledges only the best sustainable tourism practices that the country has to offer. With 140 private and community conservancies that protect 7.5 million acres of wildlife habitat, Asilia Africa is honoured to be associated with two of the 2015 winners.
