Kevin Mlay, Safari Fundi
Arusha, Northern Tanzania
Kevin is one of Asilia’s Northern Tanzania driver-guides who specialises in birding safaris, an area he has passionately pursued for his whole career. His interest in ornithology began when he joined the East Africa Natural History Society’s morning bird walk and after volunteering with Kenya Museums he studied for a diploma in Ornithology.
His experience has led him on various adventures, including as team leader for the water bird counts in the Selous Game Reserve in 2005 and working with groups to measure, ring and study the habitats and migrations of vari- ous bird species. Kevin has climbed many of the mountains and volcanoes in East Africa, including Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya and Lengai. On Kilimanjaro he saw his first Lammergeyer vulture – a rare mountain vulture and a big tick on his bird list!
Kevin is an active member of the Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania and has guided across many parts of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. His friendly, enthusiastic personality and excellent knowledge in birds as well as other wildlife makes him one of our most requested driver-guides. He lives in Arusha on the slopes of Mount Meru with his wife and son.
