Lorenzo Rossi, Safari Fundi
Ruaha, Southern Tanzania
Lorenzo originates from Italy, and has always been interested in the outdoors, having found much joy in fishing in his youth.
After graduating from University, he came to Tanzania to work with his uncle, who was, at the time, running a safari company. Lorenzo began an apprenticeship as a tour leader for large groups, mainly Italian, through Northern Tanzania. That first trip resulted in a very rare and life-changing experience – driving through the Serengeti, they had the good fortune of seeing a pangolin. From that moment, Lorenzo knew he would never go back to Italy.
Lorenzo worked for several years in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve, before joining his uncle’s camp, Kwihala in Ruaha National Park, which later joined the Asilia portfolio. He began Field Guide studies, combining courses by FGASA in South Africa with experience in the field in Ruaha. Today he is qualified as a Level 3 Field Guide and a lead walking guide. Lorenzo is still based in Ruaha and has explored every corner of this magnificent national park over the years. He plays a leading role in Asilia’s annual guide training and walking guide training in Northern Tanzania, which he says is one of the most rewarding aspects of his job.
He is passionate about wildlife photography, birding, walking, cocktail-making, and botany. And even in Ruaha, so far from Italy, he remains an avid Inter Milan fan.
