Notice on Tanzania VAT policy change

By Wandering Maasai | 24 June 2016

Late yesterday (Thu 23 June 2016) it was confirmed by the Tanzanian Parliament that they intend to remove the VAT exemption on some of the services that Asilia and our partners provide. In the past VAT exemptions included services such as tourist guiding, game driving, park fees, ground transport as well as various other services relevant to the Tanzanian tourism industry. Despite many missions, the united tourism industry was unable to reverse this government decision, and as a result, going forward certain safari quotes that include affected Tanzanian services may increase slightly. The effective date is yet to be confirmed but it could apply as early as July 1st 2016.

Please note: these VAT changes will not affect Kenya, nor are they expected to affect Zanzibar.
