Gettting around in any foreign place is always easier with a few handy phrases of the local language tucked in your travel wallet. The most common language used in Kenya and Tanzania is Swahili but you can get along just fine in East Africa using English, it’s always well received when a visitor learns the local ways. As they say, when you speak to a man in his own language, you speak to his heart.

If you’re planning on spending time with us in East Africa, these phrases will help you along the way, and more than likely make you a few new local friends! Don’t worry, Swahili is one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn as you simply pronounce the words as they are written.
