We Are Africa have awarded Rubondo Island Camp with their “Experience Africa” award for 2018 – and we couldn’t think of anywhere else that could match the experience Rubondo Island provides!

This island is no ordinary island, and the chimpanzees that call this island home are far from ordinary, too. The island was declared a sanctuary for wildlife in the 1960s when elephant, giraffe, and chimpanzees were brought there from European zoos. Throughout the years, game wardens and our Rubondo Rangers have spent time habituating the chimpanzees in the most natural ways possible.

Getting to spend time with the chimpanzees of Rubondo is something every adventure and wildlife lover should try and experience.

Now guests can be a part of the habituation experience too, providing a rare opportunity for them to be part of conservation in action.
