Twende Porini – Now In Kenya

Asilia’s highly successful environmental programme for children is now in Kenya’s Masai Mara.
Called “Twende Porini”, meaning “Let’s go to the bush”, in Swahili, the four-day camps are held at one of Asilia’s safari camps, where primary school children from local villages are taught about conservation, grazing and land/water use. They’re also given career guidance.

Our flagship environmental programme for children is expanding to Kenya.
Selecting the children from five local schools starts with a competition through The Kenya Wildlife Trust’s Wildlife Clubs.
Children are asked to describe how they see the conservancies around the Masai Mara. And how the conservancies impact their lives. They may submit their views through artwork, essays and poetry.

Children are selected from 5 local schools.
A panel of judges will select three winners from each school. Winners will be announced at the end of February. The camp starts on 13th March.

Primary school children are taught about conservation, grazing and land/water use.
“The community conservancy concept that operates in the Masai Mara means that this beautiful land, and its resources, remains the property of the Masai people who live here. It’s important that the children, the landowners of tomorrow, realise in their everyday lives the value of what they have” says Helen Schutte, Asilia’s Positive Impact Co-ordinator in Kenya.
