Best time to visit Oliver's Camp
June - September
The dry season starts in June, although the park is still lush and green after the long rains. Travelling in late June offers rewarding game viewing without the high season prices. The dry season steadily takes hold through the coming months, thinning the vegetation and seeing a large influx of wildlife into the park, creating excellent game viewing conditions. The Silale Swamps are a hive of activity, seeing large herds of elephant and buffalo on a daily basis.
October - January
October is the last month of the dry season, offering the best walking safari conditions and excellent game viewing. The short rains arrive in November, offering the landscape and wildlife some refreshment and dampening the dust, creating excellent photography conditions. Migratory birds arrive, adding to the already impressive resident numbers. Vegetation is green, but not yet thick, still offering excellent game viewing with fewer visitors in the park. January is warm and sunny, with the occasional short shower, but predominantly clear skies.
February - May
January conditions continue into February, with the park steadily becoming increasingly lush. Birding is excellent and the weather conditions lend themselves well to photography. By early March, signs of the approaching rains can be seen in the afternoon cloud cover, usually arriving around mid-month. The camp closes for the rainy season, as logistics become challenging with poor road conditions, reopening in mid-May once the rains have mostly ended and the park is green and in bloom.
