Specialist areas
Walking safaris, adventure, fly-camping, birding, botany
Alex was born in Kenya in the mid 1960s into a family that has been involved with Africa’s wildlife and people since the turn of the last century. Since growing up in Kenya and Tanzania, Alex has been guiding professionally for more than 30 years across East and Southern Africa, seeking out the most interesting wilderness areas.
His experience includes managing Sand Rivers lodge in Tanzania’s Selous Game Reserve, offering mobile walking safaris in the Masai Mara and Tsavo, and leading numerous climbs up Mount Kenya. Walking and exploring areas on foot has always been his passion and he was one of the first guides to operate safaris in the Sera Conservancy; his fly camping wilderness safaris into this region are hard to beat for those seeking a true adventure.
Alex founded Ol Pejeta Bush Camp in the Ol Pejeta conservancy, as the culmination of a lifelong dream and it is still his home, although the camp is now part of the Asilia portfolio. He believes there is no better way to connect with the real Africa than getting out there and walking to feel a part of the landscape, find and observe magnificent game in this most exciting way and view at close hand the detail of this extraordinary
environment.
He has a relaxed and humorous approach and comprehensive understanding of the bush, combined with a deep experience and close rapport with the local people.
