A 14-day East Africa family adventure
Traversing some of East Africa’s most wildlife rich environments, whilst enjoying the very best of Asilia’s accommodation, this 14-day ultimate family safari lives up to its name in providing an unmatched family adventure.
Your adventure begins in the vibrant heart of Nairobi, before boarding a flight bound for the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a secluded jewel adjacent to Kenya’s Maasai Mara. This rich ecosystem is an ideal starting point for your safari, offering the chance to encounter lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, and a wealth of plains game in their natural habitat, all within a private conservancy renowned for low vehicle density and rewarding wildlife encounters.
Next, cross the border into Tanzania’s legendary Serengeti National Park. Here, the golden plains stretch endlessly and teem with life. You may find yourself tracking big cats as they stalk the grasslands, marvelling at herds of elephant moving across the savannah, or greeting the day with a sunrise ballooning safari followed by a walking safari that reveals the smaller, hidden wonders of the wild.
Your journey concludes in the vast, untamed expanse of Ruaha National Park, a true wilderness and one of Africa’s best-kept secrets. Known for its dense lion population, Ruaha also shelters leopard, cheetah, wild dog, a remarkable diversity of antelope, and over 550 species of birds. Remote and raw, it’s the perfect place to end your safari immersed in the deep stillness and profound beauty of Africa’s wild spaces.

- Flight to Kogatende Airstrip
- Overnight at Sayari Camp
After breakfast, it’s “kwaheri”, or “goodbye” in Swahili, to Naboisho Camp, as you depart to the airstrip for your flight to Migori Airstrip in southwest Kenya. Here you will be met and assisted with the immigration process and the short vehicle transfers, as you make your way through the border post and on to Tarime Airstrip in Tanzania. Connect with your flight to Kogatende Airstrip in the Northern Serengeti, where you will be met by a guide from Sayari and warmly welcomed to Tanzania.
Once in camp, lunch will be served, and in the early afternoon, you can relax by the swimming pool or enjoy a revitalising massage in the Asilia spa. Later, head out for a game drive to explore the northern reaches of this national park, taking in the sights along the river and spotting hippos and crocodiles. The terrain here offers riverine forests and grassy valleys, with distant views of the Olololo Escarpment which runs all the way into Kenya’s Maasai Mara. Return to camp to freshen up, before enjoying sundowners around a traditional safari campfire, followed by a decadent three-course dinner.
There are two Retreats, each with two bedrooms with full en-suite bathrooms. A wrap-around veranda opens with steps down to a private campfire where sundowners can be enjoyed with views across the plains. An exclusive swimming pool and lounge area is available only for Retreat guests, ensuring the atmosphere of privacy and exclusivity is retained. Meals are planned around your movements, with your host and private chef coordinating with your private guide to plan your meals to your daily preferences. The emphasis of the Retreats lies on flexibility, and the ability to curate your safari experience to your needs and personal wishes.
Depending on your preferences, there are various options regarding how your day can be structured. One option is to break camp early and head out for a picnic on a morning game drive, returning to camp in time for lunch. Enjoy another game drive in the afternoon, or relax by the pool with a good book. Alternatively, you can eat breakfast at camp and head out on your game drive with a picnic lunch, returning in the mid-afternoon. Your private guide and vehicle allow you the flexibility to plan your day whichever way best suits you and your family. Hot air ballooning is a fantastic option to enhance your safari from Sayari, witnessing the wildlife and vast plains from the sky, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush.
- Flight to Seronera Airstrip
- Overnight at Namiri Plains
After a sumptuous final breakfast in your Retreat, prepare for a scenic flight as you transfer back to Kogatende Airstrip and connect with your flight into the heart of the Serengeti – Seronera. On arrival, you will be met by your guide from Namiri Plains for the two-hour game drive to camp.
Renowned as one of the continent’s top locations for viewing big cats, Namiri Plains offers unrivalled sightings of lion, leopard, and cheetah, often seen patrolling the grasslands or stalking their prey. Set out at dawn for a game drive in the golden light, or take to the bush on a walking safari to uncover the hidden and intimate details of the Serengeti.
The setup of The Retreats at Namiri Plains follows the same principles as at Sayari Camp, complete with the private pool space reserved for guests of the Retreats. Enjoy the flexibility afforded through the combination of a private guide and private chef, allowing you to plan your days and your meal times to align with what works best for you and your family.
Between wildlife adventures, take time to unwind. Lounge by the pool as zebra and elephant gather at the spring in front of camp, or indulge in a rejuvenating massage while the plains stretch endlessly before you. Consider taking to the skies on a breathtaking morning balloon safari, an unforgettable way to experience the savannah from a different perspective.
- Flight to Ruaha National Park
- Overnight at Jabali Private House
Today you make your way by aeroplane to Ruaha National Park, a place of striking contrasts—sun-bleached plains, towering baobabs, and palm-lined rivers alive with wildlife. From lion, leopard, and elephant to the endangered African wild dog, this hidden gem offers exceptional game viewing. During the rains, waterfalls thunder and rivers flow; in the dry season, buffalo gather in dusty riverbeds and elephant dig deep for water.
Tucked into granite boulders and baobab groves, Jabali Ridge is an elegant hideaway with just eight airy suites and one private house, blending seamlessly into the landscape. Jabali Private House consists of two en suite bedrooms and a smaller twin room perfect for younger children. The indoor-outdoor living space flows from a lounge onto a spacious deck complete with a plunge pool and views into the surrounding bush. A private guide and chef coordinate to ensure your days are scheduled to your own tempo, creating your perfect blend of activities and time for relaxation.
Spend your days on game drives or bush walks with expert guides, and return to camp for a dip in the pool, a spa treatment, or a drink under the trees. Enjoy an early dinner one evening, then venture out under the cover of darkness to explore the Ruaha wilderness on a night game drive. Using a red-filtered spotlight, sweep the vegetation and watch for the telltale glint of eyes looking back at you. Marvel at the canopy of stars from the darkness and take moment to switch off the engine and listen to the sounds of the night.
