7 Day Romantic Itinerary: Safari and Zanzibar

An African honeymoon is unlike any other as it offers the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. From thrilling game drives through wilderness areas and evenings under a canopy of stars, to island life of sandy white beaches, tropical waters and lazy days on the shores of the Indian Ocean – there is something for everyone.

Tanzania is lucky to offer visitors a wealth of different wilderness and coastal destinations, so in this itinerary, we wanted to present you with three differing bush and beach combinations to choose from. Two include your classic bucket-list destinations of the Serengeti and Zanzibar, while the third is more off-the-beaten-path, offering more exclusivity on the southern circuit with the watery wilderness of Nyerere National Park, combined with your own private island, Fanjove, located south of the Mafia Archipelago.

Please note many of our itineraries are available at varying levels of luxury: 'comfort' ‘classic’, and ‘reserve’. Use our itineraries for ideas on how to combine camps, regions and a range of experiences. Enquire when ready, and our expert staff will help customise your dream safari holiday that meets all your travel requirements.

Meet us at the airstrip
Overnight at Roho ya Selous or Sayari Camp or Singita Mara River Tented Camp

Meet and Greet at the airport. Fly from the city airport to the airstrip.

Our guide will be ready to meet you off your plane and after a quick briefing you will set off on a game drive back to camp.  Begin to get your bearings either on the banks of the Mara River in the Serengeti or the shores of Lake Nzerakera in Nyerere.  Once at camp, lunch will be served with an opportunity to relax and settle in. In the afternoon head back out into the wilderness with your guide and begin to discover the wonderful wild world at your fingertips.  Arriving back in camp at sunset, there’s a chance to freshen up before enjoying your first dinner under the stars before retiring to the campfire for a nightcap.

Depending on your preference, there are a couple of options in regards to how your day is structured. One option is to break camp early and head out with a picnic breakfast on a morning game activity, returning to camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon you can do another game activity or opt to relax by the pool with a good book. Alternatively, you can eat breakfast in camp and head out on your game drive with a picnic lunch, returning in the mid-afternoon. Private vehicle hire is an optional extra which further increases the flexibility afforded to you but must be booked in advance.

All camps offer game drives, Sayari and Roho ya Selous also offer walking safaris, while Nyerere is the only destination in East Africa to offer boating safaris, which is a wonderful opportunity to have unique sightings from the water or try your hand at catch and release fishing.

You’ll spend three days in the bush before hopping on a plane and making your way to the coast and the tropical islands of Zanzibar or Fanjove, for the remainder of your honeymoon.
