Last-Minute Christmas Trip Planning? Where To Stay This Festive Season

By Britta Foulis | 15 November 2019

It’s that time of the year when festive season travel plans have been booked and you can’t stop dreaming of that much-needed break at the end of the year. Some of us may not have gotten around to this yet and you may be asking yourself ‘where can I go over Christmas break?’ This is where we come in. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite last-minute, easy-travel ideas for you to choose from when planning your festive vacation.

Where should I go?

Easy Kenyan Safari Option

Spend a few days with us in the magical Ol Pejeta Conservancy at our Ol Pejeta Bush Camp. The camp is located right on the riverbanks of Ewaso Nyiro River in the central region of Laikipia. You’ll arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International (Nairobi’s International Airport) and hop on a 40-minute flight to Nanyuki Airstrip. From here, you’ll set off on an hour-long drive through the region in the company of your Asilia driver-guide as you make your way to Ol Pejeta Bush Camp.

Ol Pejeta Bush Camp offers an excellent base from which to explore the secrets of this renowned conservancy – from the pioneering conservation projects that have made it famous to spectacular sightings of black and white rhino and the Big 5. Spend a few nights at Ol Pejeta before making your way to the Masai Mara National Reserve to end off your safari at Rekero. You’ll fly from Nanyuki Airstrip for just over an hour before you reach Ol Kiombo Airstrip which is just 20 minutes away from Rekero. Once again, an Asilia driver-guide will be there to collect you and drive you to camp. Rekero offers one of the most spectacular locations in the reserve – you even have the opportunity to watch the last few herds of The Great Migration from the lookout deck as they make their way across the Talek River.

Easy Tanzanian Safari Option

If you’ve been dreaming of visiting the world-famous Serengeti National Park, we have the perfect quick and easy travel itinerary. Olakira Migration Campfollows the massive herds of wildebeest to two spectacular locations in the north and south of the Serengeti National Park, as well as the Ndutu region. During December, Olakira is located in the southern Serengeti region where the herds spend most of their time during this time of the year.

You’ll fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (Tanzania’s International Airport) and then catch a light aircraft into the Serengeti. This one and a half hour flight offers you the chance to take in the amazing views of the region as you fly into the Serengeti. You’ll arrive at Ndutu Airstrip where your Asilia driver guide will be waiting for you. The airstrip is only 20-minutes away from Olakira so you can either enjoy a leisurely game drive back to camp or make your way there faster to enjoy the accommodations before the real safari adventure begins. Olakira is perfectly positioned in the heart of Ndutu and offers one of the most incredible wildlife experiences while also providing a spectacular camp setting amongst with great views of Lake Masek.

Olakira’s stargazing tents have been perfectly designed so that a portion of the tent boasts 270-degree views from beneath a meshed net. You may choose to roll your bed into the meshed area for a magical experience of sleeping beneath the stars. With the galaxies glittering above you while you dream about the day’s adventures – it truly is an experience that you don’t want to miss out on.

Combining both Kenya and Tanzaniain a safari is actually quite simple and we can easily arrange this for you. Let us know if you’d like to include Kenya, Tanzania and maybe even a bit of Zanzibar in your trip and let us plan your best vacation yet.
