Moments That Made Us Smile: International Day Of Happiness

The 20th of March is celebrated as the International Day of Happiness each year. The theme for this year is “Keep Calm. Stay Wise. Be Kind.” and focuses on staying positive during hard times. With all of the negative news we’ve been exposed to in the past few weeks, here are a few of our favourite images that we’re sure will bring a smile to your face!

Keeping calm meansremembering to breathe and focus on what really matters so we can respond constructively. Staying wise means making wise choices helps everyone. Let’s choose positive actions that support our wellbeing and help others to do the same. Being kind highlights that we’re all in this together, even when we’re forced apart. Let’s stay connected and reach out to help others who may be in need.

Hanging in there

We just couldn’t hold back the giggles when we saw this image of a male lion perched in a tree. He seems to be quite at home, maybe this is the perfect vantage point for him to spot his next meal?

A Serengeti surprise

Lailatue, one of our chefs at Dunia Camp, prepares an omelette in the middle of the Serengeti at our famous kopjes spot that so many Dunia Camp guests love! Lailatu is one of our scholarship winners and has worked hard to become a chef at Dunia Camp – we love seeing our family succeed and are so proud of all Lailatu has accomplished so far.

Lion around

This lazy boy decided that the most comfortable way to take his afternoon nap would be on his back. We love when our big cats act just like our little cats do at home – they can be just as playful and just as sweet!

Races in Ruaha

Stevie, one of our guides at Jabali Ridge, wins in a race between himself, one of our team members, and some guests. Sometimes it’s the spontaneous moments that are the most fun and we love it that our guests enjoy being a part of the action.

Strike a pose

This sweet baby elephant was spotted in the Ruaha National Park close to our camp Roho ya Selous. He seems to have noticed the camera and lifts his trunk to wave hello!

Awesome foursome

We love how these four lion cubs have cuddled together to keep an eye on their surroundings. They spend most of their day playing and waiting for mum to return with a meal so their bond is strong.

In a slump

This lioness seems to have had enough and has called an end to the day. Slumped over a kopje and happy to spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing!

Dancing Dunia ladies

Each and every guest is welcomed, and sent-off, with a song and a dance by the ladies of Dunia Camp. It is absolutely the best way to arrive at camp and will have you wanting to miss your flight home when the time comes to leave – these wonderful women are filled with such passion and love for what they do that it radiates through their smiles, it’s hard not to join in while they serenade you with traditional songs and dances!

Twende Porini – Let’s go to the bush

Something that is close to our hearts and always brings a smile to our faces is our Twende Porini program.The program welcomes learners from local schools to join us for a few days at one of our properties to learn about the importance of conserving our wildlife and the areas which we call home – in between game drives and teaching, there are a bunch of fun activities on the go as well – musical chairs is always a favourite!
