Naboisho Wildlife Update – March 2015

Each month we are given a full update on our camps and their wildlife viewings for the month. Seeing as most of our camps are closed during April & May we wanted toshare with you what went on in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy during the month of March.

The Mara Naboisho Conservancy totals 50 000 acres and boasts an impressive amount of wildlife! This month’s update comes straight form Naboisho Camp‘s manager, Roelof Schutte.

Lion
3 prides totaling 53 individuals. In Naboisho there are 3 prides – The Sampu Enkare Pride consisting of 11 individuals; The Enesikiria Pride consisting of 35 individuals and also the IIkisiusiu Pride made up of 5 individuals.

Cheetah
The Mara Naboisho Conservancy has a total of 13 individual cheetah recorded on the ID Database.

Leopard
The Mara Naboisho Conservancy has a total of 17 leopards recorded on the ID Database.

Elephant
Naboisho is a hub for elephants and the density of elephant inNaboisho is the highest in the Maasai Mara. 200 elephant call Naboisho their core Home Range and over 1 000 individual elephant traverse through Naboisho on a yearly basis.The wider great Mara area is home to nearly 4000 elephants too!

National Geographic filmmakers Bob and Gina Poole have been staying at Naboisho Camp for the past few months following a family of elephant for a new documentary. If you would like to see what they have gotten up to please click here.

Wildebeest
Naboisho is home to another special migration, the Loita Migration which sees some 5 000+ Wildebeest and 1 000+ Zebra making their way through Naboisho.

Striped Hyena
This hyena is a very rare species with very few numbers and localized distribution around Naboisho. We were lucky enough to spot one close to the camp!

Maasai Giraffe
The Mara Naboisho Conservancy is a stronghold for the Giraffe of the Mara. We have groups ranging from 10 – 40 individuals roaming the Mara and calling Naboisho their home.
