Taking Your Teens On Safari

By Asilia Africa News | 23 August 2018

An Asilia safari is well-equipped to keep even the pickiest teen delighted. Here are some options to think about for your family safari holiday.

Get Private

We have a number of properties which allow you exclusive use of the accommodations and facilities – this means you and your family will have a completely private and personalized safari experience with us. Our best exclusive-use options are any of our Mara Bush Houses located in Kenya, the Jabali Private House in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania, as well as the Matemwe Beach House in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

If your teens don’t feel like waking up at the crack of dawn for a game drive, they’ll be able to sleep in and spend the morning doing whatever it is they wish to do. Your private chef will be more than happy to cater to your family’s different preferences and will keep even the fussiest of eaters happy!

What makes our exclusive-use camps even better is the fact that you will have a private vehicle and dedicated guide on standby for your entire trip – you have total flexibility to arrange each day as you choose, from the time your game drives start and end to the location of your meals. A private safari with Asilia is entirely tailored to suit your own needs.

Iconic Experiences

We have many activities and experiences to take part in when joining us on safari – some might appeal more to your teenager than others though, so we’ve rounded up a few that we think any teen would be keen to give a try!

Hot-Air Ballooning

There is nothing that can compare to a hot-air balloon safari in East Africa – it seriously is something everyone should try to do once in their lifetime. If the kids aren’t keen on joining you for this one, we recommend leaving them behind and going anyway!

Glide high over the vast plains teeming with herds of wildlife in the early morning. Typically, a balloon safari begins at around 6 am and lasts for one to two hours and is followed by a champagne (not for the teens though!) breakfast in the bush, a fitting end to a memorable flight in the wild. If you need any more motivation, here are our Top 10 Reasons to Book A Balloon Safari.

Sleep under the stars

Imagine going to sleep at night with only the sounds of the African bush around you, and the only lights around are the stars overhead. Asilia is one of very few operators to offer you this exceptional, highly adventurous option, and we’re pretty sure any teenager would find this to be unmissable.

Accompanied by an armed guide, you spend the afternoon on a walking safari to the fly camp, a comfortable, yet solo, site in the bush. Fly Camping may take you and your family a little outside your comfort zone, but once you try it, you will be hooked (please note Fly Camping is booked at an additional cost and children need to be 16 years or older).

Alternatively, stay in Olakira Camp's stargazing tents to sleep under the stars without leaving the comfort of your room.

Sharing Your Stories

One question you are sure to be asked by your teen when suggesting a safari for your next family holiday is “will there be wifi?”

Luckily, all of our camps do have wifi so there is no need to panic, your teens will be able to keep in touch and up-to-date with what’s happening back home. This also means that they will be able to share their incredible images and videos online and make all their friends wish that their parents had taken them to Africa for an Asilia safari, too!
