Trek For Chimpanzees On Rubondo Island

Rubondo Islandis home to a very special group of chimpanzees whose ancestors were brought to the islandin the 1960s as part of an ambitious conservation project. Today, you can be part of the very special Chimpanzee Habituation Project –a unique opportunity to join the habituation team as they accustom the chimps to the presence of humans and see these chimps up close in the wild.

During the process of habituating the chimpanzees of Rubondo Island, our team spends a lot of time out in the wilderness, trekking deep into the overgrowth to find the chimps, and then being present with them. By teaching these chimps that we, as humans, do not pose a threat to them, they are slowly but surely learning to trust and accept us. Something we are incredibly proud to have happen– watch this short video to get a glimpse of what the experience entails.

Try Your Luck At Witnessing A River Crossing

Very few lifetime experiences can beat that of watching over a million wildebeest plus hundreds of thousands of gazelles and zebra – followed by their predators – embark on their 1,000km-long circular trek through the unfenced Masai Mara and Serengeti in search of seasonal pasture and water. The Great Migration is most definitely one for the books and an epic adventure to embark on in 2019 – and if your luck and timing are impeccable, you’ll be fortunate to experience the high drama of the river crossings.

Deciding on the best time and place to witness this astounding phenomenon can seem daunting, but our network of camps are ideally positioned along the route to offer you a front-row seat to all the action.

Your best bet is to visit camps close to the rivers when you’re almost certain the herds will be in the area, have a look at our interactive maps and switch through the tabs to see where the herds cross each year and when. If you need more convincing, this video below of how The Great Migration can be experienced at Olakira Camp will leave you in awe!

Walk Through Ruaha National Park

A walking safari is one the most intimate ways to experience the bush, doing so in Ruaha National Park is an out-of-this-world experience. The scope of wildlife in Ruaha is extraordinary, a result of the park’s unique location straddling the transition area between Eastern and Southern Africa and two distinct vegetation zones. It is one of the largest wildlife conservation areas on the continent and incorporates multiple ecosystems that support a great and varied number of species.

Walking Safaris can be enjoyed with one of ourexperienced armed guides and local trackers. Eye-to-eye with the wildlife, your senses are heightened and the sights, sounds and smells of the bush come alive.

You may be needing a bit more of a push to get out of your comfort zone and head out on foot in the wild. Luckily for you, you can take a 360° virtual tour of what a walking safari from Jabali Ridge entails! Move your mouse around the screen to look in the direction you choose. Be sure to watch this video with a Virtual Reality headset if you have one for an even more immersive experience.
