A Safari in the Selous

By Claudia Smargiasso | 17 August 2017

Aside from being excited to finally venture into the Selous, we’re also excited about the range of activities we’ll be offering our guests in this pristine patch of wilderness.

Game Drives

The Selous Game Reserve is an area of varied landscapes and changing scenery. For this reason, all our game-viewing vehicles are open-sided to offer uninterrupted views.

Whether you head out in the early morning or late afternoon, the Selous’s verdant swamps, palm-fringed rivers, open plains and woodland areas are waiting to be explored.

Walking Safaris

One of the most rewarding and memorable ways to explore the Selous is on a walking safari. Engage all your senses as you head off on foot, with the sights, smells, sounds and textures of the bush surrounding you.

Note: walking safaris are not available to children under the age of 16.

Boating

One of the Selous’s major drawcards is the possibility of heading out on a boat to see the wildlife that gathers on the banks of the many rivers, waterways, and lakes. Birdwatching on a boat safari in Selous is particularly rewarding, while also offering the opportunity to see pods of hippo wallowing in the shallows and crocodile basking on the sandbanks.

Note: boat safaris are dependant on the level of the water

Catch-and-Release Fishing

When you’re not out exploring the Selous on game drives, walks and boat safaris, guests can also spend a relaxing afternoon on the boat casting a line in the water in the hopes of catching one of the many species of fish found here. All the equipment is provided; all that’s left is to sit back and wait for a nibble…
