7-day Romantic Adventure: Safari And Beach

Itinerary Details

Day 1 – 3: Wildlife Wonders Await: Explore, Relax, Repeat!
  • Arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport
  • Fly to Nyerere National Park
  • Overnight at Rufiji River Camp or Beho Beho or Laba Siwandu Camp

On arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport, you’ll be met and assisted with your connection to your flight to Nyerere National Park. Upon arrival at the airstrip, you will be met by a guide and provided with an overview of the surrounding area whilst enjoying a game drive to camp. On arrival in camp, you’ll be provided with a briefing and camp overview, before sitting down for lunch and the opportunity to settle in.

In the afternoon, you will return to the bush with your guide and discover the incredible wildlife. Nyerere is a hidden gem, offering boating and walking safaris to complement your game drives, and wildlife which includes wild dog, elephant, giraffe, leopard and abundant hippo and crocodile in the waterways. The diversity of vegetation and ecosystems within the park attracts a stunning array of birdlife, especially between November to March where is increased rainfall.

At sunset, head back to camp, where you can freshen up before enjoying drinks around the campfire, followed by a delicious dinner. A perfect ending to the first day of your honeymoon.

Mornings are typically considered the best time of day for a walking safari, while it is still cool, and wildlife is more active ahead of the midday heat. Alternatively, take a picnic breakfast and head out for an early morning game drive to explore the banks of the river and the open plains of Nyerere, returning to camp for lunch under the trees and an afternoon siesta through the hottest past of the day. In the afternoon, enjoy a boating safari, cruising the lakes and waterways watching hippo and crocodile, and the phenomenal birdlife that resides within the park. Each of the camps offer game drives, walking safaris, and boating safaris, providing you with a variety of options for how to structure your days on safari.

You will spend three days in the bush before heading to the coast and the romantic tropical islands of Mafia or Fanjove for the remainder of your honeymoon.

Day 4 – 6: Escape to your Island Adventure
  • Fly to your chosen island destination
  • Transfer to the lodge
  • Overnight at Pole Pole Bungalows or Chole Mjini Treehouse Lodge or Fanjove Private Island

Depending on your itinerary option, you will either fly to Mafia Island where you will be met and transferred to the lodge, or you will fly to Songo Songo Island and then transferred by boat to Fanjove.

Pole Pole Bungalows offers a laid-back beach side atmosphere alongside great cuisine and warm hospitality on the island paradise of Mafia. Swahili for “slowly slowly”, your days here are governed by the tides, the sun, and the moon, with an emphasis on relaxation and soaking up the moment. Enjoy snorkelling and diving, swimming with whale sharks, exploring ancient ruins, and immersing yourself in the vibrant local culture.

Chole Mjini is a tranquil and isolated destination, offering the simple luxuries within a jungle retreat. The marine reserve offers the opportunity to swim with whale sharks and phenomenal snorkelling, while daily boat trips explore the circumference of the island, stopping at tidal sandbanks. The rustic treehouse accommodations are cooled by the sea breeze and enjoy stunning views towards the ocean.

After arriving at the secluded Fanjove Private Island, a hidden gem that offers a genuinely eco-friendly and authentic experience, you will settle into your charming A-framed wooden banda. This striking structure is open at the front, letting you soak in the uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. The whole property has been designed to blend in with the pristine surroundings and minimise its environmental footprint. Solar power is employed for all the rooms, and the buildings use traditional, natural materials incorporating sustainable wood, makuti palm leaves and thatch.

Over the next few days, you can live out your wildest dreams of being a castaway on a tropical island. The islands are home to a rich biodiversity of thousands of sea birds, nesting turtles and coconut crabs. Enjoy a range of ocean-based activities, or kick back and relax on the pristine beach.

Day 7: Bid Farewell to Paradise!
  • Transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport

Feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, enjoy a final delicious breakfast while soaking up the serene ocean views before packing your bags. Retrace your steps, returning to Mafia Airstrip or Songo Songo Airstrip, before connecting with your flight to Julius Nyerere International Airport, and checking in for your international flight home.
