About
The Retreats at Namiri Plains offer elevated exclusivity and flexibility, creating chic, stylish and personal spaces for families and groups of friends travelling together.
The Retreats at Namiri Plains, operating year-round, boast a prime position in the eastern Serengeti along the Ngare Nanyuki River. This is big cat country, the ultimate location within the Serengeti for viewing cheetah and lion, and smaller cats like serval and caracal. With resident apex predators comes a healthy prey population and a thriving ecosystem. Explore these plains through game drives and walking safaris for an unforgettable safari experience. For deeper insight into some of the area’s conservation efforts, spend an informative evening with researchers from the Serengeti Cheetah Project.

Located on the Ngare Nanyuki River on the sprawling eastern Serengeti savannahs, Asilia’s Namiri Plains offers a tranquil oasis within this vast grassland.
This is big cat country. Here, you can spot the majestic big cats such as lion, cheetah, and leopard, and sometimes the smaller serval and caracal. There is abundant plains game enjoying the grasslands and keeping the predator population well-fed. If you visit between October and May, you may be fortunate enough to witness the herds of the Great Wildebeest Migration of wildebeest and zebra, either as they pass camp during their journey south, or on a full day game drive to the short grass plains of the southern Serengeti.
Best time to visit the Retreats at Namiri Plains
Visit Namiri Plains year-round!
June - September
June is the last of the quieter tourism months as Serengeti’s peak season approaches. Most tourist activities occur in the northern Serengeti from July through September, when wildebeest herds cross the Mara River. This dry period is optimal for wildlife sightings, particularly with Namiri Plains' superb seclusion and abundance of big cats.
October - January
Despite some afternoon showers in November and December, this is an excellent time to visit due to fewer tourists and reduced rates. The resident wildlife delivers spectacular year-round game viewing, accompanied by the arrival of migratory bird species. The herds of the Great Migration fill the plains for a short couple of weeks as they pass by on their journey south.
February - May
February’s drier conditions and vibrant scenery provide ideal photographic opportunities with good light and little dust. The long rains begin in March, but stunning sightings of the wildebeest’s birthing season can be witnessed through longer game drives into the south. The roads can become challenging when muddy, but the reduced rates and a sense of adventure make for an exciting safari experience with very few other tourists in the Serengeti.
