We will welcome you to Tanzania, and a private driver-guide will transfer you to Tarangire National Park by road. This beautiful park is home to Tanzania’s largest concentration of elephants and over 500 bird species, with varied terrain from granite ridges, river valleys, baobab trees dotting the savannah, and the wildlife-rich Silale swamp near Oliver’s Camp. Enjoy exciting game drives and walking safaris to observe the smaller creatures and learn about animal tracking. Alternatively, take to the skies in a hot-air balloon at dawn or spot rare nocturnal wildlife on a thrilling night drive.
Oliver’s Camp is one of the pioneering properties in the Asilia portfolio, founded in 1992 by safari legend, Paul Oliver. Over the decades, we have created a friendly and welcoming base for exploring this beautiful park.
Oliver’s Camp has 15 tents, split between two wings of five and ten, respectively. Each wing has a lounge and dining room, with views overlooking the floodplains of the Tarangire River. The tents are spacious and comfortable, with en suite bathrooms, flushing toilets, and indoor and outdoor showers. You can relax and enjoy the serenity of the bush and generous landscapes from your private deck. When not out on game drives, the swimming pool offers an inviting spot for a refreshing dip.
- Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
- Overnight in The Highlands
After a delicious breakfast surrounded by the early morning soundscape of the bush, you will be transferred to The Highlands in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, driving up the Rift Valley Escarpment and stopping to soak in the view of the crater on the journey to camp.
At over 8,000 feet, eight unique Perspex and canvas geodesic domed suites are surrounded by lush vegetation, affording breathtaking views of distant volcanic mountains and the Serengeti. Each suite has a fireplace to keep you warm in the cool night time temperatures, and an en suite bathroom with hot running water, showers, and flushing toilets. The camp’s location on the side of the Olmoti crater offers rewarding walking opportunities, a welcome chance to stretch your legs after a few days in a vehicle.
On an early morning departure from camp, your experienced safari guide will take you on a game drive into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in a comfortable seven-seater vehicle with pop-up rooftops, onboard power points, and fridges. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor while spotting Tanzania’s iconic wildlife. Your stay also includes a hike down into Empakaai Crater, where a soda lake attracts flamingos on their migration path, as well as a fascinating cultural visit to a nearby Maasai village.
Our wholesome meals are made from the freshest locally sourced produce and served in our dining room, or outside on the deck. Asilia Africa’s The Highlands is an award-winning destination that promises a memorable stay.
