June - September

High: 25.5°C / 77.5°F Low: 12.5°C / 53°F Rainfall: 46.75mm / 1.825in

June marks the transition into peak season as the Mara's landscapes remain lush from previous rains. From July through to September, witness the dramatic spectacles of the Great Migration, as vast herds of wildebeest cross the Mara and Talek rivers, braving crocodile-infested waters. This dry period offers optimal wildlife-viewing conditions with clear skies and excellent visibility. The concentration of predators following the herds creates exceptional big cat sightings, making this the most popular time to visit the Mara.

October - January

High: 27°C / 81°F Low: 12°C / 54°F Rainfall: 88mm / 3.5in

October presents wonderful opportunities to catch the tail end of river crossings with fewer crowds. The short rains in November and December refresh the landscape, transforming it into a green paradise that attracts numerous bird species. Despite occasional afternoon showers, wildlife viewing remains excellent with reduced tourist numbers and lower rates. January's generally dry conditions offer superb game viewing as resident wildlife thrives in the rejuvenated environment, creating perfect photographic opportunities with dramatic skies and vibrant scenery.

February delivers exceptional safari conditions with clear skies, abundant birdlife, and flourishing landscapes perfect for photography safaris. The phenomenal resident wildlife ensures outstanding game viewing despite the migration herds being further south. March typically sees the onset of the long rains, though showers often occur in the late afternoon, leaving mornings ideal for activities. The emerald-green scenery during this period creates stunning backdrops, while dramatically reduced rates and minimal tourist presence offer an exclusive, adventurous safari experience for those who embrace the seasonal variety.

Your Questions Answered

How do I get to Emboo?

The nearest airstrip is Ol Kiombo, just a scenic 20-minute drive from camp. Transfers to/from Ol Kiombo airstrip and to/from Emboo are included in your accommodation rates.

Is Emboo suitable for families?

Absolutely! We welcome families with children aged 5 years and above. Our family tent provides spacious accommodation perfect for parents travelling with children. In addition to exploring the savanna during child friendly game drives (which includes a game of Safari Bingo which is loved by young and old), kids can learn Maasai beading and make their own jewellery, harvest ingredients with the Emboo chefs in the garden, be awarded a Maasai Warrior Certificate after learning how to track animals, shoot bow and arrow and other survival skills, shoot seedballs with slingshots to help reforest the Mara, go on nature walks around the camp, enjoy pool time and so much more.

What makes Emboo's electric vehicles special?

As Kenya’s first camp with a full fleet of electric safari vehicles, Emboo offers silent, zero-emission game drives in converted electric Land Rovers and Land Cruisers, aligning with our commitment to protecting the Mara ecosystem. These solar-powered vehicles allow you to go on full day explorations, crossing rivers, grasslands, and forests, with more power, more wildlife, more natural sounds and more fun. Now guests and guides can use all their senses, allowing them to see, smell and hear the wilderness around them. Approach wildlife without engine noise, resulting in more natural animal behaviour and more intimate encounters.

What wildlife can I expect to see?

The Maasai Mara boasts exceptional year-round wildlife, including lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, hippos and crocodiles. Regular sightings also included hyenas, serval, and diverse antelope species. Between July and October, witness the millions of wildebeest and zebra of the migration. The camp’s riverside location attracts elephants and other animals, often visible from your tent.

What dining options are available?

Emboo’s farm-to-fork philosophy means food that is fresh, colourful, and straight from the source! Emboo’s organic ingredients are grown just 100 steps from your plate in our vertical and hydroponic gardens. Join our Chefs to handpick the star of your dish and enjoy a culinary journey that blends global flavours with the wild. Whether you’re plant-based, gluten-free, or anything in between, we’ve got you covered!

What activities does Emboo offer?

In between wilderness drives, you can plant indigenous trees, join the Chefs in the hydroponic farm, explore the Mara on foot with the rangers of Mara Elephant Project, gather around the campfire for Maasai storytelling, test your speed on the first running track in the Mara, cool off in the pool or unwind at the bush spa, take adventure higher with a hot air balloon safari (additional charges apply), experience Maasai culture with the Emboo team or try warrior training, learning survival skills like rungu throwing and archery.

How does Emboo support conservation and sustainability?

At Emboo, innovation elevates your stay while protecting the planet, thanks to the Net Zero set up. Every aspect of the guest experience and operations has been designed to be fully sustainable. There are no noisy generators, just 24/7 solar power. Enjoy farm-to-fork meals, transforming food waste into energy. Relax in spaces designed with natural and recycled materials, and discover so much more during a tour behind the scenes. In addition to employing local Maasai community members, Emboo is Kenya’s only camp with a full fleet of electric vehicles. Experience a safari where luxury and sustainability go hand in hand.

What should I pack for my safari?

Pack neutral-coloured, lightweight clothing suitable for warm days and cooler evenings. Essentials include comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, insect repellent, and binoculars.

What does 'Emboo' mean?

“Emboo” is a Maasai word that means “a pride”, “a community” or “a group”, and the camp is a proud member of the Maasai Community. Emboo is powered by a dynamic team of young, passionate changemakers. The majority of the team is Maasai, reflecting our deep connection to the local culture and the majestic wildlife that surrounds us.
