BBC One‘s latest mini-series, Serengeti, aired its first episode earlier this month. Each episode follows the lives and intertwined stories of several animals that call these plains home while showcasing the intense drama and action that accompanies the area’s distinctive wildlife.

In the latest episode, we were told more about Bakari’s story. Bakari is a young male baboon – full of life and passion. He had devoted his life to one particular female in the troop but when she is stolen away by a new, more aggressive, leader Bakari begins a deep and jealous rivalry between the two of them.

We’ve rounded up some of our favorite facts about the baboon to share with you and will be sharing more about the other characters in BBC One’s Serengeti series in the coming weeks as the episodes are premiered.
