About
Opening for travel in 2026, Erebero Hills will provide the ideal haven from which to venture into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – home to more than half the world’s mountain gorilla population and one of the most biodiverse places on our planet.
The considered design of Erebero Hills, meaning “a place where you can see far”, takes creative inspiration from the surrounding landscape of rolling hills. Sweeping views across the forest will be on offer from all guest suites, or from the hillside swimming pool on warm afternoons. Combining sustainable luxury with the thrill of observing one of the world’s most endangered species in their natural habitat, Erebero Hills will provide a unique and rewarding safari experience.
ACCOMMODATION & AMENITIES
Erebero Hills is set to provide the service and attention to detail that Asilia is so well-renowned for, alongside a meaningful and empowering positive impact commitment. 8 forest-view suites tucked into the hillside, each with a private viewing deck and uninterrupted views of the forest across the valley, have been designed for style and luxury. The spacious, glass fronted interiors are filled with natural light, with a king-sized bed and both indoor and outdoor seating options designed to maximise the expansive views. A boot-room at the entrance to each suite offers a thoughtful design element, while the en suite bathroom applies the finishing touches with a free-standing bathtub and both an indoor and outdoor shower, all with breathtaking views of the forest. The main lounge and swimming pool offer additional areas for relaxation, while spa treatments can be enjoyed in-room to ease tired muscles.
Located on the northern edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Erebero Hills holds an enviable position offering both privacy and convenient access to a preferred gorilla trekking location.
Driving an ambitious reforestation project, we aim to create a forest buffer zone within the 45 acres surrounding the lodge. A long-term project, this will eventually deliver an accessible forest for the Batwa people who are no longer allowed in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and will create sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities both now during the planting phase, and for many years to come.
Best time to visit Erebero Hills
Visit Erebero Hills year-round!
July - October
This is a relatively dry period in Bwindi, getting wetter through September and October. The drier conditions make it a great time for gorilla trekking, but even as the rain starts to increase, sightings of gorillas are still good as the troops seek out shelter in the dense foliage. The forest is lush and vibrant and the various species of the forest are active, including forest elephant, monkeys, and a multitude of bird species that welcome more and more migrant species as the rainfall increases.
November - February
Visiting Erebero Hills at this time of year offers the benefits of the dry season (easier gorilla trekking conditions, better photography opportunities, incredible bird watching and minimal rainfall), while also remaining blissfully devoid of the larger crowds of tourists that can be expected around mid-year. Showers should always be expected, but the terrain is still firm underfoot.
March - June
March to May is wetter at Erebero Hills. Gorilla trekking is still possible, but conditions are muddier and more slippery. The forest erupts into a dense, lush backdrop for photos and creates the feeling of an enchanted wonderland. There are fewer other tourists to compete with at this time, so gorilla permits may be easier to come by and experiences become more intimate. Migratory bird species descend on the forest, providing bird enthusiasts with many thrilling sightings. By June, the rainfall has lessened and the terrain is beginning to firm up again as the dry season begins.

Yes, it does. Families with children aged 5 years and older are more than welcome to stay with us. However, the minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years.
In addition to housing more than half the world’s remaining population of mountain gorilla, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest plays home to staggeringly rich array of biodiversity. Over 350 species of bird, more than 200 species of butterfly, and more than 100 mammal species, of which 10 are primates. With convenient flights from Kenya, Erebero Hills combines easily with Asilia’s Kenya portfolio, allowing for an incredible East Africa adventure.
It’s an early start as you drive to the park headquarters to meet the rest of your group and your guide. After an initial briefing, there is usually a short drive to the starting point. The trek can take anywhere from a couple of hours upwards, often through thick vegetation and up steep slopes. Once you find the gorilla family, you will spend one hour with them, before beginning the return journey.
It is important to have worn in hiking boots, preferably with ankle support, and ideally waterproof. Thick hiking socks should also be worn. Gardening gloves, or a glove with hand protection for pushing stinging nettles aside are recommended. Long lightweight trousers, a sweat-wicking, quick-drying t-shirt, and a long sleeve lightweight shirt allow for both comfort and protection from the vegetation. Also, remember that small planes have a baggage weight limit of 15kg (33 lbs).
Our chefs prepare food onsite at the lodge, sourcing fresh vegetables and produce from the surrounding communities as locally as possible, whilst adhering to Asilia’s quality standards.
Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements ahead of your arrival; we will happily accommodate.
